Competition

'Tis the season of merriment and good cheer, so how about a little competition to try and guess what is behind that little door in the Khufu pyramid. My entry would go something like this:

Behind the door is just sufficient room for a plaque to be attached to the back of the door. Two pins hold the plaque in place and these protrude through the 'door' and are bent downwards to hold it in place. On the plaque may be an image of the pyramid and the Sun.

Secret Chamber

With much fanfare Robert Bauval's new book "Secret Chamber" is launched. After ploughing through the impenetrable text, (yawn), a comment is perhaps warranted.

The final analysis in the book "Secret Chamber", is that the pyramid was designed to have some stellar significance with the star Sirius at midnight on the turn of our millennium.

Ah, I understand everything now. The designer knew that in several thousand year time, someone called Jesus would be born, and that a small section of the world population (but not the modern Egyptians) would venerate him. Also that the dating system for these people would be re-datumed so that this particular 'millennium' would occur when it does. Also he/she calculated the proper motion of Sirius against the background of stars so that it would be present at that time in the right location (or did he attach rockets to the back of Sirius to nudge it that little bit extra to get it into the right position?). Such were the capabilities of this Neolithic hut dweller...

I think the correct scientific word for this is ... tosh.

Please link onto the e-magazine The Daily Grail for a full and rather comprehensive interview with myself, plus questions on the hot topics of the 'Horizon' programme and the Appleby saga.

Censorship!

Religious censorship is alive and well in the very late 20th century. New Scientist magazine has refused to carry an advert for "Jesus, Last of the Pharaohs" because the very title itself may be offensive to their readers. I find it strange that the otherwise free-thinking, sometimes radical, world of science should find the notion of Jesus being an exiled pharaoh offensive. Perhaps a few enquiries to the New Scientist editor are in order, to see why our scientific community are now such shrinking violets.

New Books?

Like all authors, Ralph Ellis is currently working on new projects for publication. New evidence is flowing in that may prove that the "Hall of Records" concept is more than sheer speculation. The maps uncovered in the book "Thoth" seem to be correlating more and more with the topography in the locations marked. In other words the maps appear to be very accurate indeed - accurate enough to warrant an expedition. Of course, some may say that the "Hall of Records" is under a pyramid, but what sort of simpleton would place the most valuable hoard ever, under such an obvious land-mark?

New Web-Site

Edfu Books gets a new web-site. For anyone who saw the old version, it is a considerable improvement and all thanks must go to Mark Foster for his considerable help in creating the new site.

Discussion Board

The Templar Lodge web-master has proposed a discussion board to allow public debate on the books "Thoth" and "Jesus". Questions will be answered in due course by the author Ralph Ellis. One expects that this will be a lively debate, especially on the subject of the Biblical Patriarchs being pharaohs of Egypt. This has already caused a huge number of e-mails to the Edfu office, mostly supportive one has to say. The general opinion so far is that "This may be radical, but it does make a great deal of sense".

"Jesus" Sales

A customer in the US walked into our distributors office and ordered 100 copies of "Jesus" - "for his friends". Oh, to have so many friends and to be so generous...

New Article

The Pyramid Repairs article by Ralph Ellis was published over EGYPTNEWS. (See "Article" heading above). This attempts to show that the pyramids are much older than traditionally supposed, and by a very simple observation - that the pyramids are covered in repairs. This provoked the greatest number of responses that Edfu Books has had to date, and many thanks to all that took the trouble to reply.

The only possible "flaw" in the argument so far, is that the repairs were done in a later era, but were not recorded. But when one considers that the removal of sand from around the Sphinx was considered a great feat worthy of a grand inscription, I myself find this scenario unlikely.

W H Smiths

Edfu Books breaks into W H Smiths! (Not quite literally) While this may not be a major mile-stone for most authors, it is quite an event for a smaller publisher, even our distributor was surprised. As a large retailer, W H Smiths tends to only browse the popularist markets and gives esoteric books a wide berth - it is pleasing to get their endorsement. Take a trip to your local store and see the books for yourself.

Criminal Investigation

The criminal investigation against Random House is re-opened and statements have been taken from the various parties involved. The Edfu Books statement took no less than two days to deliver.

A.A.S. Conference

Ralph Ellis gives a lecture at the A.A.S. conference in Gelsenkirken in Germany. The conference was organised by the A.A.S. as a bi-annual event and included speakers from around the world. Clive Prince and Lynn Picknett gave a talk on their forthcoming book The Stargate Conspiracy, and Philip Coppens gave a talk severely criticised the orthodox alternative camp. Other speakers included:

- Prof. Dr. David S. McKay, who gave a talk on the possibilities of life (microscopic life) on Mars.

- Herrn Dr. h.c. Erich von DS¼niken, on his new theme park to be built in Interlaken, Switzerland. When completed this will be a must for all in the alternative history camp. It will house many zones covering the major mysteries of the world, each zone being housed in a copy of the major monument from that pert of the world.

Mr. Ralph Ellis, a presentation of the book "Thoth". Were the ancient monuments designed as maps of the Earth? This lecture drew a great deal of critical approval from the audience and was well received.

- Dr. Roberto Pinotti, UFO's in renaissance paintings. A surprising number of strange balloons and flying objects are to be found in his native Italy.

- Prof. Dr. Pasqual S. Schievella gave a talk on the current advances in SETI, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence.

Other speakers included:

- Herrn Peter Belting
- Dr. Hermann Burgard
- Dr. Algund Eenboom
- Herrn Dr. Johannes Fiebag
- Herrn Peter Fiebag
- Herrn Gerd Wolfgang Hs¼chsmann
- Herrn Peter Kaschel
- Prof. Dr. Masaaki Kimura
- Mr. Dawoud Khalil Messiha
- Prof. Dr. Pasqual S. Schievella

Order, Order.....

The Crown Prosecution Service threw out the criminal case against Random House for the plagiarism of the book "Thoth". They cited a "lack of evidence", which was strange, as they had not requested any. In desperation, the case was taken to the British Parliament, where a question was put to the Attorney General:

20 May 1999 : Column 1208

Mr. Chope:

I am grateful to the right hon. and learned Gentleman for that reply. My question was, as he knows, prompted by a constituency case, involving Mr. Ellis, the author of a book entitled, &quotThoth: The Architect of the Universe". After it was published, the book was subject to massive plagiarism by Random House, one of the world's largest publishers. No fewer than 70 pages and some diagrams from his book were reproduced word for word in a Random House book. The publishers were put on notice that Mr. Ellis objected, and they undertook not to carry out publication. However, they did publish, taking advantage of their position in the market as one of the largest publishers. My constituent went to the police to seek redress under section 107 of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988.

Many months later, Mr. Ellis received a letter from the CPS saying that it would not prosecute but giving no reason. That is most unsatisfactory, and I hope that the Attorney-General can explain to Mr. Ellis why--

Madam Speaker:

Order. The hon. Gentleman is raising a constituency case across the Floor of the House. He might do better to make proper written representations to the Attorney-General, which would give the right hon and learned Gentleman an opportunity to consider it.

Mr. Chope:

Further to your remarks, Madam Speaker, I have written to the Attorney-General, and I have had no reply.

Madam Speaker:

Well, the right hon. and learned Gentleman knows about it now.

The Attorney-General:

I am grateful to the hon. Gentleman for giving me notice this morning of the matters in which he is interested. He wrote to me as recently as 30 April concerning his constituent, Mr. Ellis, about whom he is obviously concerned. The hon. Gentleman's letter has been transferred to the Home Office for an answer. As I understand matters from the hurried inquiries that I have been able to make, the case is at present a matter for the police. So far as I know--and I shall have to make further inquiries following what the hon. Gentleman said--the CPS is not involved. I may be wrong on that point, but I have been unable to make further progress on it during the past two hours. I will write to the hon. Gentleman as the situation develops.

Extract from this debate are to be found in Hansard.
